Description To Books The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto

Mitch Albom creates a magical world through his love of music in this remarkable new novel about the power of talent to change our lives

This is the epic story of Frankie Presto—the greatest guitar player who ever lived—and the six lives he changed with his six magical blue strings

Frankie, born in a burning church, abandoned as an infant, and raised by a music teacher in a small Spanish town, until war rips his life apart. At nine years old, he is sent to America in the bottom of a boat. His only possession is an old guitar and six precious strings. His amazing journey weaves him through the musical landscape of the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s, with his stunning playing and singing talent affecting numerous stars (Duke Ellington, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley) until, as if predestined, he becomes a pop star himself.

He makes records. He is adored. But Frankie Presto’s gift is also his burden, as he realizes the power of the strings his teacher gave him, and how, through his music, he can actually affect people’s lives. At the height of his popularity, tortured by his biggest mistake, he vanishes. His legend grows. Only decades later, having finally healed his heart, does Frankie reappearjust before his spectacular death—to change one last life. With the Spirit of Music as our guide, we glimpse into the lives that were changed by one man whose strings could touch the music—and the magic—in each of us.

I'm breathless. The star rating doesn't fit this book. It is wildly wonderful. Of course, so was Tuesdays with Morrie, but The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto had so many more dimensions, so many incredible loops and tie-ins and -- well, magical happenings. I know it's large, nearly 490 pages, but if you can read it in one sitting -- and it is easy to race through -- then the rhythm, once begun, never gets interrupted, and the rhythm adds to the richness. The story is at once legend, parable,

This beautifully written book is Mitch Albom's best work yet and I am hoping it will be made into a film. The story is mesmerizing and I couldn't put it down. It is a phenomenally crafted work of literature because Albom has managed to make music, the narrator of the book, convincing, reliable and alive. The full-cast audio audition includes "memories" of music greats such as Burt Bachrach, Tony Bennett, Lyle Lovett, Ingrid Michaelson, Wynton Marsalis, Darlene Love, John Pizzarelli, this will be

Like probably everyone else, I've heard of this author but unlike probably most, I've never had a desire to read one of his books. I'm in a Book Voyage experience in one of my groups and this book was the first one to journey to my home. The person sending it (Linda) rated it highly and thought our voyage members would enjoy it. I'm so glad she sent it, I truly loved it! (Thanks, Linda!) I found the writing to be really, surprisingly, good and the story was so well-done with an interesting

4.5 starsThere's something about Mitch Albom's writing that is so beautiful and magical, I could just bathe in all the words. Frankie Presto was once one of the greats and rubbed shoulders with Elvis, Hank Williams, Django Reinhardt and Darlene Love.He was born in the middle of Franco's dictatorship of Spain and found his way through America. The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto starts with the death of Frankie and we make our way to the start of his story, who he was, how he learned to play the

Four and a half stars. This story has a unique narrator. It is told by Music and it starts with a funeral and tells the tale of Frankie Presto, real name Francisco. Born in Spain, in a time of civil war, to a woman named Carmencita, his life is endangered but saved. Right from the beginning his life is one of music as well as many desperately hard times. Music goes on to fill in the details of his life and the reader hears from others who have been friends or been influenced by Frankie over the
