Another hit from Jeff Shaara. This book tells us of the Mexican War, probably more forgotten than the Korean War. Many of the American officers who led troops during the Civil War were junior officers during this conflict, including Robert E. Lee, one of the main characters, along with General Winfield Scott. We meet other Civil War generals here, including U. S. Grant and Thomas Stonewall Jackson. Santa Anna, conquerer of the Alamo, is also featured. Four stars waxing.

Least favorite of his novels. Not as gripping and now his style has gotten tired.

Historical fiction is a genre I haven't gotten into very much, but I've typically enjoyed what I've read in it. I did enjoy this book, even though it wasn't quite my cup of tea. But for the most part it's a good read. It offers a good insight into the men who commanded the armies on the Civil War battlefields, showing their exploits in the Mexican-American War.
